How Identity Changed is Celebrating Queerness
Alex Perez Moya founded his quirky new take on a casting agency Identity Changed after working as a casting assistant

Contact caught up with one of our wonderful partner agents, the founder of Identity Changed - Alex Perez Moya. Alex fell into casting during the beginning of the pandemic, like many of us who unexpectedly adapted and developed our skills through lockdown. Starting as a casting director's assistant, and then moving on to casting independently, which as lockdown continued led Alex to establish his own agency - Identity Changed. Whilst the main focus of his agency is to develop a platform for diversity, it is also to create a community wherein queer individuals can communicate and express themselves freely together. Here we had a chat with Alex, where he gives us an insightful rundown into Identity Changed and how he got to this point.

How did you get into scouting/casting?
I got into casting during the beginning of the pandemic and started to make extra money being a casting director's assistant. I learnt a lot and once I felt comfortable enough I continued on my own and started my own agency.
I've always enjoyed taking pictures of people so I started scouting my own friends and posting them on Instagram. I had a really warm welcome but I never thought about taking it this seriously.
What do you look for in a model when you scout?
I always look for unique profiles. I'm queer and I was always the weirdo, so this is a very cool way to connect with people that have also always felt this way, being weirdos too. I'm very happy that I can now share my platform with other agencies, supporting people that wouldn't have been accepted by modelling agencies 5 years ago.

How does casting in Barcelona differ to London, and what do you think Barcelona particularly offers in terms of the industry?
In Barcelona things progress slower, but now things are starting to develop and places are accepting more diverse profiles. I think this approach will continue to grow and it's great!
It has nothing to do with London as a place really, but in London you can find real diversity whereas Barcelona is more complicated.
What is the main focus of Identity Changed?
The main focus apart from giving this platform diversity is to create a community. This may sound strange, but I don't see any difference between my personal life and my work life. I'm still the same person at the end of the day and that's why I love taking care of the people I represent - treating them as human beings who have feelings and needs.
Communicating and motivating each other is very important, and the talent really appreciate when an agency supports and encourages you in every step you take.
Most of us are queer, so we are creating a beautiful space where all of us can freely communicate, get to know each other and work together. And for me, that's more than enough - I feel so grateful to have the opportunity to create and share all of this!

What goals are you aiming to reach with the agency?
My main goal is to be free financially and surround myself with lovely people all time - which I'm doing and appreciate that.

What do you most enjoy about scouting, and what has inspired you the most throughout your career in casting?
I'm an introverted person so this has been a long journey to enjoy through talking to people and ask them if I can take their picture for street casting etc. Once I do though, I really enjoy it because I really love meeting people and getting to know everything about them. You make a connection with a random person and that's very, very cool.
I love that the people I work with and take inspiration from are all so supportive - it makes things so much easier starting out! Sometimes you find competitive energy but I mainly receive tons of love from everyone.
