Our failures and rogue adventures can often lead us to take new creative journeys. We can find inspiration in the unexpected - taking us off track. Through a series of short episodes, we'll explore the creative lives of multifaceted creatives in the Contact community, looking at places and spaces that inspire them, and uncovering their stories and creative paths.

A creative could be a model and a musician. Or a painter, set designer and makeup artist. We're often told to choose one discipline and focus on the skills we can monetise to build our creative careers. But what if the seed of our creativity lived in all facets of our personality? And that for it to grow, we needed to spend time developing our distinct aspirations and creative visions?
Multifaceted creatives have diverse talents and passions. Often referred to as "Jack of all Trades", they can adapt quickly to new jobs and market conditions by picking into their eclectic skillset. Yet, this wide creative lens also brings its own set of challenges.
Because of the many-sided aspects of their creativity, they have to split their energy into multiple disciplines. Knowing which practice to focus on to make money and which career path to take can be challenging.
Ever heard of the "Master of None" stigma? It states that people with many skills struggle to master one thing. And wish they could excel in just one thing. Multifaceted creatives can sometimes think this way as they try to carve their way through their many aspirations.
But we don't have to restrict ourselves to one practice or passion. Exploring different career paths and creative endeavours can help us find joy and purpose in our work, and strike a balance.
Honouring the multifaceted aspects of our creativity
As a creative, figuring out which creative practices can support us financially is important, but we don’t have to tie all aspects of our creativity to performance and money.
It’s okay to keep one passion or hustle for ourselves as a private source of delight, untouched by market trends, social media likes or financial pressure. As a safe haven to protect and cherish the seed of our creativity, so it can bloom and reach its full potential.
Let’s go off track so we can live passionately and adventurously, our hearts filled with gratitude, and with the eyes of a child, take in all the beauty the world has to offer, and all the beauty we can create.
